Pilates is a method of exercise that is accessible to everyone and although it can be performed with equipment, it can also be and is more commonly performed by simply just using a mat. This makes it accessible to everyone. Pilates, if recommended by your physiotherapist or doctor makes excellent exercise for assisting in the treatment and management of:
- back pain

- before and after pregnancy
There are 8 principles to Pilates which are:
Concentration - It is important with Pilates to concentrate on doing the exercises correctly using the correct muscles. Repeatedly doing the exercises incorrectly leads to bad habits that are hard to correct.
Precision - Working the correct group of muscles that need to be worked in the correct order.
Isolation - Trying to switch off muscles that are not required for the movement.
Flowing Movements - This then leads to flowing movements.
Control - Controlling the movements throughout using the correct muscles.
Centering - Working from a strong centre or core.
Breathing - It is the breathing that helps activate the important core muscles. Routine - Making the exercises become part of your lifestyle gives rise to the success of the Pilates method. Put simply practice makes perfect.
